“Rorke’s Drift, Hospital Vignette No. 2” is a historical miniature diorama set portraying part of the desperate defense of the mission hospital during the Battle of Rorke's Drift in South Africa.

The scene recreates fighting around the hospital building where soldiers of the 24th Regiment of Foot defended wounded men and evacuated patients while under attack by Zulu warriors during the Anglo-Zulu War.

Typical contents of a “Hospital Vignette” set:

  • One or more British soldiers in defensive or rescue poses
  • Interior or exterior hospital action scene components
  • Wounded troops, barricades, or ammunition boxes
  • Hand-painted 54mm / 1:30 scale metal figures
  • Designed as part of a larger Rorke’s Drift display

Historical context:

  • The battle took place on 22–23 January 1879
  • Around 150 British defenders held the mission station against several thousand Zulu warriors
  • The hospital became one of the fiercest fighting areas as defenders broke through walls room-by-room to evacuate patients
  • The defense later became one of the most famous actions in British military history

The battle was famously dramatized in the Zulu starring Michael Caine and Stanley Baker.
