ACCPACK039H – Matilda II Tank, T.7368 “GNU III”
The Matilda II earned its reputation during the early years of the Second World War, when its exceptionally heavy armour made it a formidable opponent on the battlefield. Although relatively slow, it had been designed as an infantry tank, intended to advance alongside and support troops on foot.
Its most celebrated service came in the Western Desert, where British and Commonwealth forces used the Matilda extensively against Axis armies. In the early stages of the North African campaign, many enemy anti-tank weapons struggled to penetrate its armour.
ACCPACK039H – T.7368 “GNU III” recreates an individually identified Matilda II and makes an impressive centrepiece for a Desert War collection.
Available from The Military Workshop – a substantial Thomas Gunn representation of one of Britain's most recognisable and heavily protected early-war tanks.
