The story of the 44th Regiment of Foot at Gandamak is inseparable from the catastrophic British retreat from Kabul during the First Anglo-Afghan War.

Thousands of soldiers, camp followers and family members began the retreat in January 1842, facing severe winter weather and repeated attacks as the column attempted to reach Jalalabad.

GAN-07 – 44th Regiment of Foot represents another soldier from the dwindling force that eventually reached the final fighting around Gandamak.

Combined with the wider GAN series, the figure contributes to one of John Jenkins Designs' most dramatic historical collections.
