USBS-15M – The American Civil War 1861–1865 – The Battle of Brandy Station, 9th June 1863 – Army of the Potomac – Cavalry Corps – Union Cavalry – 1st Maine Cavalry Regiment – Standard Bearer (3 pcs)
The Battle of Brandy Station was the largest cavalry engagement ever fought on American soil and marked a turning point in the development of the Union Cavalry. Fought on 9 June 1863, the battle saw thousands of mounted troops clash in a fierce struggle that demonstrated the growing confidence and effectiveness of Union horsemen against the celebrated cavalry of General J.E.B. Stuart.
Among those who rode into battle was the 1st Maine Cavalry Regiment, whose reputation for courage and aggressive action would continue to grow throughout the Civil War. At the centre of every cavalry regiment rode the Standard Bearer, entrusted with carrying the regimental colours into the heart of the fighting. More than a simple flag, the standard represented the honour, identity and fighting spirit of the regiment. Protecting it was considered one of the greatest responsibilities a soldier could receive.
This magnificent three-piece set faithfully recreates that proud tradition. The beautifully sculpted Standard Bearer is accompanied by supporting cavalrymen, creating a dramatic display full of movement and character. Every detail, from the flowing colours and realistic horse furniture to the finely painted uniforms and equipment, reflects the exceptional quality expected by collectors.
At The Military Workshop, we believe the regimental colours deserve a place of honour in every Civil War collection, and this outstanding set provides a fitting tribute to the bravery of the 1st Maine Cavalry.
