The 11th New York Volunteer Infantry, or "First Fire Zouaves," was a Union regiment organized in May 1861, known for their unique Zouave drill. They often used Sharps rifles and revolvers, with some members carrying 16-inch bowie knives. Firing and loading involved a "nine times" drill aiming for three rounds per minute.
