The Kardakes remain particularly interesting because historical accounts do not present them as one clearly defined troop type. They have been described as hoplites, peltasts and other infantry, suggesting that the term may have referred to a broader class of troops rather than soldiers equipped in one standard fashion.

This four-figure set is therefore particularly useful for creating the varied appearance expected of the enormous Persian armies that confronted the Greek and Macedonian world.
