The 99th (Lanarkshire) Regiment of Foot, later associated with the title Duke of Edinburgh's, was among the British units serving in southern Africa during the Anglo-Zulu War.

GG99-01 portrays an officer of the 99th, providing a natural command figure for the regiment's rank-and-file releases.

Officers were expected to maintain order and direct their men amid the smoke, noise and confusion of battle. In a larger display, this figure can stand prominently behind the firing line or among the troops as they prepare to meet an attack.
