GGNC-09N – Natal Carabineers | John Jenkins Designs

GGNC-09N represents a larger grouping of the famous Natal Carabineers, one of the colonial volunteer mounted corps that served during the Anglo-Zulu War.

The Natal Carabineers were formed in 1855 and headquartered at Pietermaritzburg. Like other volunteer formations in Natal, members supplied much of their own equipment, including their horses and saddlery.

Their uniform was based around dark blue cloth with distinctive white facings, while all ranks wore the characteristic white helmet.

The unit operated as a form of light mounted infantry, using the mobility provided by horses while being capable of fighting effectively once dismounted.

At Isandlwana the Natal Carabineers mustered around 85 officers and men, with 23 members losing their lives during the battle.

Will be available from The Military Workshop.
