Sailors fighting hundreds of kilometres from the sea may seem unusual, yet Naval Brigades were a familiar feature of Britain's Victorian campaigns.

Men and equipment from Royal Navy ships could be landed and organised for service ashore. During the Anglo-Zulu War, personnel from vessels including HMS Shah contributed to operations on land.

GGNV-04 presents three members of the British Naval Brigade from HMS Shah, bringing a very different visual character to the Eshowe Relief Column.

Paired with Royal Marines and naval weapons, the sailors can form an impressive Naval Brigade section within a larger British force.
