GGZ-11 – Two Zulu Warriors – umCijo Regiment
The umCijo Regiment formed part of the Zulu military system during the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879 and was among the regiments that took part in some of the campaign's most important actions.
Zulu regiments were more than temporary groups assembled for battle. The regimental system created strong bonds between men of similar age and provided the organisation through which the Zulu king could mobilise thousands of warriors.
GGZ-11 portrays two warriors of the umCijo Regiment, giving collectors the opportunity to represent a specific component of the Zulu impi rather than a generic group of warriors.
They can be displayed around their own command figures, mixed into a larger Zulu attack or positioned against British infantry to recreate the dramatic contrast between massed indigenous formations and Victorian rifle fire.
For collectors building the Zulu side of the campaign in depth, named regimental releases such as GGZ-11 add another important level of historical identity.
Available through The Military Workshop – two finely realised John Jenkins Designs umCijo warriors representing the organised regimental strength of the Zulu army of 1879.
