HITT-08B – Two Hittite Spearmen – Battle of Kadesh, 1274 BC
HITT-08B introduces another two Hittite spearmen into the army assembled for the Battle of Kadesh.
The importance of alternate poses becomes particularly apparent when building ancient infantry. Real soldiers would never have appeared as perfectly duplicated figures, and mixing the A and B versions helps break up the uniformity of a larger formation.
Historically, the Hittite army at Kadesh was part of a much wider military and political system. King Muwatalli II was able to draw upon the resources of his empire and its allies as he confronted Egyptian attempts to reassert influence in Syria.
These spear-armed troops represent the infantry strength supporting that campaign. Position them behind the Hittite chariots, guarding the king or moving towards the main battle as additional troops arrive.
Combined with HITT-08A and the larger army-builder sets, this pair can help produce a dense but visually varied Hittite battle line.
