JAN-21 – Janissaries
By the height of Ottoman power, the Janissaries had become one of the most recognisable symbols of the Sultan's military establishment.
JAN-21 – Janissaries expands the infantry component of a John Jenkins Designs Ottoman army and is particularly useful for creating the numbers expected around the more specialised troops.
Janissaries became closely associated with firearms, and their role reflects the Ottoman Empire's important place in the development of early-modern gunpowder warfare. Ottoman armies combined artillery and infantry firepower with cavalry and troops equipped for close combat.
A convincing display can therefore contain several different layers. JAN-21 can occupy the principal infantry line, while Zihril Nefer move forward and command figures or standards provide structure behind them.
Mixing JAN-21 with earlier Janissary releases helps prevent a large formation from appearing overly uniform.
Available from The Military Workshop – a detailed John Jenkins Designs Janissary release for increasing the strength and variety of an Ottoman infantry formation.
