JAN-23 – Janissaries
The JAN-23 Janissaries continue the process of building an Ottoman force from individual and complementary troop sets rather than repeating a single pose.
Janissaries belonged to a standing corps directly associated with central Ottoman power. Their discipline and organisation distinguished them from many other troops raised for particular campaigns or supplied by different parts of the empire.
As the centuries progressed, the corps changed considerably, but during the great period of Ottoman expansion its infantry formed an important component of the Sultan's armies.
JAN-23 can be placed in the centre of the infantry formation, supporting an assault or holding ground while more specialised figures operate around them.
For an expansive display, combine the various JAN codes across several ranks, with standards and command figures providing visual landmarks within the mass.
