JAN-26N – Janissaries

The Janissaries formed one of the most distinctive military institutions of the Ottoman Empire, developing from an elite standing infantry corps into an organisation that would influence Ottoman military and political life for centuries.

JAN-26N – Janissaries is particularly well suited to collectors building these famous Ottoman infantrymen in greater numbers. Rather than standing alone as individual character figures, Janissaries become especially impressive when assembled into a substantial formation with different poses distributed naturally throughout the ranks.

During the great period of Ottoman expansion, Janissaries became strongly associated with the adoption of hand-held firearms, while the wider Ottoman army combined infantry, cavalry and formidable artillery. Their battlefield world therefore represents an important transitional era in which gunpowder weapons existed alongside swords, polearms and personal armour.

JAN-26N can be mixed with JAN-21 through JAN-25N to increase the depth of the main infantry formation. Armoured Zihril Nefer can then be positioned closer to the enemy, while standards, commanders and artillery help create a complete Ottoman battle or siege scene.
