MAC-05C – Three Phalangites with White Shields

The white shields of MAC-05C give collectors another building block for a unified Macedonian pike formation.

Three figures may appear modest when viewed individually, but the phalanx was fundamentally about multiplication. Add MAC-05C to the other white-shield groups and the character of the display changes dramatically.

The soldiers' smaller shields reflect the practical requirements of handling the two-handed sarissa. Protection depended not only upon armour and shield but also upon the depth of the formation and the projecting pikes ahead.

This set can occupy a front, middle or rear rank depending upon the arrangement of the wider collection. When several C variants are combined, the repeated white shields provide a particularly strong unit identity.
