MAC-41 – Macedonian Prodromoi

The Prodromoi show another side of Macedonian cavalry warfare – one based upon speed, reconnaissance and battlefield flexibility rather than the shock action normally associated with Alexander's Companions.

MAC-41 – Macedonian Prodromoi provides another mounted figure for this important light cavalry arm.

During a campaign, cavalry scouts could range ahead of the marching army, investigate routes and provide warning of enemy activity. On the battlefield, lighter horsemen could protect flanks and exploit opportunities created by the heavier troops.

The figure becomes particularly effective when combined with MAC-40. Rather than placing both horses side-by-side as if on parade, separate them slightly across the terrain to suggest a loose scouting screen.

Behind them, the Macedonian phalanx can be arranged in dense ranks, producing an excellent visual contrast between the compact infantry centre and the freedom of movement enjoyed by the cavalry.

For a larger Alexander display, MAC-41 helps demonstrate just how many specialised elements worked together within the Macedonian army.

Available through The Military Workshop – another finely detailed John Jenkins Designs Prodromoi cavalryman for expanding the fast-moving mounted screen of the Macedonian forces.
