MAC-42 – Prodromoi
MAC-42 – Prodromoi continues the light cavalry component of the Macedonian army, adding another horseman to the troops operating beyond the main battle line.
A commander such as Alexander needed information quickly. Infantry could hold ground and cavalry could deliver attacks, but scouts were needed to determine what lay ahead and reduce the danger of surprise.
The Prodromoi are therefore particularly useful in campaign dioramas rather than only pitched battles. Place MAC-42 on a track ahead of a marching column, approaching a river crossing or observing enemy troops from a distance.
In a battle scene, the figure can operate on the flank of the phalanx or alongside other lighter cavalry while the Companions are concentrated for more decisive action.
Combining MAC-40, MAC-41 and MAC-42 creates a much more convincing reconnaissance group than repeating a single mounted pose.
