MAC-44 – Macedonian Prodromoi

The Macedonian army that conquered the Persian Empire was capable of moving and fighting across an enormous range of terrain, and its mounted troops were essential to that flexibility.

MAC-44 – Macedonian Prodromoi adds another cavalryman to the lighter mounted forces.

These horsemen make an excellent contrast to both the dense Phalangites and the elite heavy cavalry. Their role can be interpreted visually through their placement: spread them across the foreground or flanks rather than packing them into a tight formation.

A group of Prodromoi can appear to be screening the army as it advances, investigating enemy positions or moving rapidly towards an exposed part of the battlefield.

Collectors building a substantial Macedonian force can use MAC-44 with the earlier Prodromoi releases to create an entire mounted screen, while Parmenion, Thessalian cavalry and other command figures occupy different parts of the field.

The result is a far more complete representation of Macedonian warfare than a collection consisting only of Alexander and his famous phalanx.

Available through The Military Workshop – a superb John Jenkins Designs Macedonian Prodromoi figure for adding another fast-moving horseman to the cavalry forces of Alexander the Great.
