SMASS12-02A - Infantry Officer, 12th Massachusetts Regiment | John Jenkins Designs
This individual figure represents an officer of the 12th Massachusetts Regiment, one of the Continental Army formations that served during the American War of Independence.
The regiment was raised on 23 April 1775 under Colonel Edmund Phinney and was associated with the 18th Continental Regiment during its early service.
The 12th Massachusetts participated in major engagements throughout the Revolutionary War, including the fighting at Bunker Hill, Valcour Island, Saratoga and Monmouth.
The regiment remained in Continental service until its disbandment at West Point, New York, on 1 January 1781.
Officers played an essential role in eighteenth-century infantry warfare, directing the movements of troops and maintaining the discipline necessary to load, fire and manoeuvre under battlefield conditions.
The regiment's brown uniforms with red facings reflected a style of clothing worn by Continental infantry during the conflict.
SMASS12-02A provides another officer variation for collectors recreating the 12th Massachusetts Regiment.
It is particularly suitable for building a command group alongside SMASS12-01 and SMASS12-02B.
The figure can also be displayed with the regiment's infantry and supporting figures to represent the American forces that participated in the Saratoga Campaign.
