LOJ010 – The Lost Lamb | King & Country
The image of a shepherd searching for a lost lamb is one of the most enduring scenes associated with the biblical world. Sheep were an important part of everyday life in the ancient Near East, providing wool, milk and meat, while shepherds spent long periods moving and protecting their flocks across often difficult countryside.
LOJ010 – The Lost Lamb captures a quieter and more personal moment, focusing on the care given to an animal that has become separated from the flock. Rather than depicting soldiers, rulers or a major historical event, the piece brings attention to the ordinary people and animals whose daily lives formed the background to the biblical story.
The subject also carries strong biblical symbolism. In the Parable of the Lost Sheep, Jesus tells of a shepherd who leaves the rest of his flock to search for the one sheep that has gone astray, using the story to illustrate the value placed upon every individual. The shepherd and lamb therefore work equally well as an everyday pastoral scene or as part of a display inspired by the teachings and parables of Jesus.
LOJ010 would make a natural addition to a Life of Jesus diorama, particularly alongside shepherds, villagers, animals and rural buildings. It can also be positioned away from the main group, creating the impression of a shepherd who has just discovered the missing lamb and is preparing to return it safely to the flock.
Now available from The Military Workshop – a gentle and evocative King & Country piece that adds both everyday life and biblical storytelling to a Life of Jesus collection.
