In the chaos and excitement of the battle this infantryman fires a shot at the enemy while not even noticing his shako has just been shot off his head!

The figure represents a Mexican line infantryman during the final assault on the Alamo. By 1836, much of the Mexican Army was equipped with surplus British India Pattern "Brown Bess" flintlock muskets purchased after the Napoleonic Wars. These .75-caliber smoothbore muskets were reliable enough for massed infantry tactics but relatively slow to reload, making bayonet charges an essential part of close combat.

King & Country captures the chaos of the attack by showing the soldier firing on the move while apparently unaware that an enemy bullet has knocked his shako from his head. This small detail adds a vivid sense of the confusion and intensity of the fighting.
