SW009 – Ashigaru Arquebusier with Sashimono Banner

By the late 16th century, firearms had become an important part of Japanese warfare. The tanegashima matchlock arquebus, introduced to Japan by Portuguese traders in the 1540s, was rapidly adopted and eventually employed in large numbers by the armies of competing daimyō.

SW009 – Ashigaru Arquebusier with Sashimono Banner depicts a foot soldier equipped with his firearm and the distinctive sashimono, the small identification banner worn on the back to help distinguish troops amid the confusion of battle.

The banner gives this figure additional height and colour, making him especially effective among a larger formation of Western Army arquebusiers.

Available from The Military Workshop – a striking King & Country Ashigaru combining the revolutionary firepower of the matchlock with one of the most recognisable features of the Samurai battlefield.
