ROM099 – Praetorian Archer Letting Loose | King & Country

ROM099 “Praetorian Archer Letting Loose” captures a Praetorian Guard archer immediately after releasing his arrow.

The soldier has been aiming high and has already loosed his shot, his extended pose capturing the brief instant immediately after the bowstring has been released.

The Praetorian Guard was one of Ancient Rome’s most prestigious military organisations.

Established by Emperor Augustus in 27 BC, its primary purpose was to protect the emperor and his family while also assisting with security and the maintenance of public order within the city.

Praetorians enjoyed higher pay and better living conditions than ordinary Roman legionaries and were distinguished by their association with the imperial colour purple.

Their responsibilities were surprisingly varied and could include guarding the imperial household, controlling crowds at Rome’s enormous public games and even assisting as emergency firefighters.

ROM099 forms part of King & Country’s first group of Praetorian archers, each depicted at a different stage of action.

Whether these men are fighting to protect the emperor or simply sharpening their skills at the fortified Castra Praetoria, they provide plenty of possibilities for an ancient Roman display.

Will be available from The Military Workshop.
