SOE036 – S.B.C. Sowar w/Lance | King & Country
SOE036 “S.B.C. Sowar w/Lance” represents an ordinary mounted trooper of the famous Sam Browne’s Cavalry.
The historical military title Sowar was used for a horse-mounted cavalryman, with the term deriving from Persian and Urdu and meaning, quite simply, “Rider.”
These mounted soldiers formed the fighting backbone of Indian cavalry regiments and combined expert horsemanship with the training and discipline required of a professional cavalry trooper.
Sam Browne’s Cavalry could trace its origins back to 1849, when Lieutenant Samuel J. Browne raised the 2nd Punjab Irregular Cavalry at Lahore.
The regiment served extensively on the North-West Frontier and later took part in some of the major conflicts of British India, including the Indian Mutiny and Second Anglo-Afghan War.
SOE036 carries the traditional cavalry lance and is shown in the colourful pre-First World War appearance selected by King & Country for this series.
Displayed individually or grouped with additional Sowars, officers and specialists from the same range, SOE036 helps create an impressive cavalry formation from one of the most historic mounted regiments of the British Indian Army.
Will be available from The Military Workshop.
