Buffalo Hump was an important Penateka Comanche war chief during the first half of the 19th century, a period marked by intense conflict and change across Texas and the Southern Plains.

He is particularly remembered in connection with the Great Raid of 1840, when a large Comanche force struck settlements deep inside the Republic of Texas.
