GG91-16 – 2 Highlanders, Ammunition Box and Private – Zulu Wars
The 91st (Princess Louise's Argyllshire Highlanders) played an important role during Britain's campaign in South Africa following the disaster at Isandlwana in 1879. As reinforcements poured into Natal, the Highlanders became part of the determined effort to restore British military prestige and relieve isolated garrisons such as Eshowe. Fighting in difficult terrain against a highly skilled and courageous opponent, the regiment demonstrated the discipline and professionalism that had become synonymous with the British Army during the Victorian era.
Victorian warfare relied not only upon courage but also upon logistics. Ammunition had to be carried to the firing line under enemy attack, ensuring that soldiers could maintain the steady rifle fire upon which British tactics depended. During the Anglo-Zulu War, ammunition supply became a critical lesson following the events at Isandlwana, making ammunition carriers and support personnel an indispensable part of every engagement.
This beautifully composed set captures an often-overlooked aspect of nineteenth-century warfare. The inclusion of an ammunition box alongside the Highlanders adds both realism and narrative to any display, telling a story beyond simply advancing soldiers. Every figure has been expertly sculpted to reflect authentic uniforms, equipment and natural poses, while the superb hand-painted finish highlights the intricate details that collectors appreciate.
At The Military Workshop, we believe the finest miniatures tell a complete story. Whether displayed as part of a firing line, defending a camp or recreating the relief of Eshowe, this set offers both historical authenticity and exceptional craftsmanship, making it an outstanding addition to any Anglo-Zulu War collection.
