HMRR-04Y – Four Hastati – Yellow Shields
HMRR-04Y presents four Hastati with yellow shields, providing an alternative colour grouping within John Jenkins Designs' Roman Army of the Mid-Republic.
During the centuries of the Middle Republic, Roman armies fought a remarkable succession of opponents. The wars against the Samnites helped shape Rome's domination of Italy, while the Punic Wars against Carthage eventually carried Roman military power far beyond the Italian peninsula.
The Hastati formed the first main line in the traditional three-part heavy infantry deployment of Hastati, Principes and Triarii. Their task could be extremely demanding: engage the enemy first, use their pila to disrupt opposing formations and then fight at close quarters.
The yellow shields give this four-man set a strong visual identity and allow collectors to distinguish one body of troops from another within a much larger Roman army.
Combine them with yellow-shield command and signalling figures to develop a coordinated formation.
