GWA-03(31) – 31st Battalion AIF
GWA-03(31) continues John Jenkins Designs' representation of the 31st Battalion of the Australian Imperial Force, providing another figure with which to build the battalion beyond its command personnel.
The 31st was formed in Australia in 1915, with recruits principally associated with Queensland and Victoria, before proceeding overseas. After training in Egypt it joined the 5th Australian Division and moved to France in 1916.
Life on the Western Front was far removed from the romantic image of soldiers marching directly into battle. Infantry spent long periods occupying trenches, carrying supplies, repairing positions and preparing for operations before being called upon to advance across heavily contested ground.
This figure can therefore be incorporated into anything from a front-line trench to an advancing infantry scene. Mixed with the crawling and command figures of the 31st Battalion, it helps create a much more varied Australian formation.
Available through The Military Workshop – another characterful John Jenkins Designs 31st Battalion figure for collectors building the Australian Imperial Force of the Great War.
