ROM101 – Praetorian Archer Aiming High | King & Country
ROM101 “Praetorian Archer Aiming High” depicts a Praetorian Guard archer carefully sighting upwards along his bow.
King & Country suggests several possibilities for his target. He may be aiming at an enemy positioned above him on a wall or on the upper level of a building, or he may be preparing to provide plunging fire against an opponent some distance away.
The figure forms part of King & Country’s first group of fighting Praetorian Guard Archers, with each soldier shown in a different action pose.
The Praetorian Guard itself was formally established under Emperor Augustus in 27 BC to protect the emperor and his family while also maintaining security in Rome.
Its members enjoyed substantially better pay and living conditions than ordinary legionaries and wore superior-quality equipment befitting their elite position.
They were closely associated with the imperial colour purple, symbolising their prestige and personal loyalty to the emperor.
The Guard also carried out a surprisingly broad range of duties around Rome, including crowd control at the great games and emergency firefighting.
Combined with ROM098, ROM099 and ROM100, this figure creates a varied group of archers that can be used either in battle or in a training scene at the fortified Castra Praetoria.
Will be available from The Military Workshop.
