SOE041 – S.B.C. Dismounted Risaldar-Major | King & Country

SOE041 “S.B.C. Dismounted Risaldar-Major” depicts the senior Indian officer of a cavalry regiment standing proudly on foot.

The rank of Risaldar-Major was historically the senior military rank used by local Indian officers serving specifically within the cavalry of the British Indian Army.

It was therefore a position of considerable prestige and responsibility, held by an experienced officer who occupied an important place within the regimental structure.

King & Country notes that the traditions surrounding the rank survived beyond the British Indian Army and continue to be reflected within the modern armed forces of India and Pakistan.

This figure represents a member of the famous Sam Browne’s Cavalry, a regiment first raised at Lahore in 1849 as the 2nd Punjab Irregular Cavalry.

The regiment developed a distinguished record through service on the North-West Frontier, during the Indian Mutiny and throughout the Second Anglo-Afghan War.

King & Country has portrayed the regiment as it would have appeared on parade in the years before the First World War.

The dismounted stance of SOE041 makes it particularly useful for a parade-ground, headquarters or ceremonial scene and provides an excellent contrast to the mounted officers and troopers in the same series.

Will be available from The Military Workshop.
