GA-58 – The Second World War, German Armour – German King Tiger #311

The Panzerkampfwagen VI Ausf. B, more commonly known as the King Tiger or Tiger II, was the most powerful operational heavy tank fielded by Germany during the Second World War. Introduced in 1944, it combined the thick armour of the original Tiger I with the sharply sloped armour concepts pioneered by the Panther, creating a vehicle that was exceptionally difficult to destroy from the front. Armed with the devastating 8.8cm KwK 43 L/71 gun, the King Tiger could engage and destroy Allied tanks at remarkable distances, earning a fearsome reputation on battlefields across Normandy, the Ardennes, Hungary and the Eastern Front.

Despite its formidable combat capabilities, the King Tiger arrived at a time when Germany's strategic position was rapidly deteriorating. Shortages of fuel, experienced crews and replacement parts limited its effectiveness, while its immense weight often caused mechanical difficulties and restricted its mobility over bridges and difficult terrain. Nevertheless, when properly employed by well-trained crews, the King Tiger proved to be one of the most formidable armoured fighting vehicles of the war, capable of dominating the battlefield through sheer firepower and protection.

King Tiger #311 represents one of these legendary machines in exceptional detail. Every aspect of the vehicle has been faithfully recreated, from the imposing lines of its massive turret to the intricate running gear, realistic weathering and carefully applied camouflage. The subtle finishing touches bring the model to life, capturing the battle-worn appearance of a frontline vehicle while maintaining remarkable historical accuracy.

At The Military Workshop, we know collectors appreciate models that combine historical significance with outstanding craftsmanship. This impressive King Tiger is a centrepiece worthy of any Second World War armour collection, offering an extraordinary level of detail that rewards close examination from every angle. Whether displayed alongside German armoured formations or opposing Allied vehicles in a carefully constructed diorama, German King Tiger #311 is a commanding representation of one of history's most iconic heavy tanks and a model that will undoubtedly become a highlight of any serious collection.
