The 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment holds an important place in American Civil War history as one of the first African American regiments raised in the North. Organised in 1863, the regiment demonstrated the courage and military ability of Black soldiers fighting for the Union.

54MASS-02 – Captain, 54th Regiment Massachusetts represents an officer serving with this historic regiment. Officers were responsible for maintaining discipline, directing their companies and leading their men through the confusion and danger of battle.
