ABHL-03 - Peter Salem | John Jenkins Designs

This individual figure represents Peter Salem, an African American soldier associated with the Battle of Bunker Hill on 17 June 1775 during the opening stages of the American War of Independence.

Peter Salem was born into slavery in Massachusetts and later gained his freedom. He became one of the African American soldiers who served in the colonial forces during the Revolutionary War.

Salem participated in the fighting at Bunker Hill, where American colonial troops defended their positions on Breed's Hill against repeated British assaults.

He is traditionally associated with the death of British Marine Major John Pitcairn during the battle, although the precise circumstances of Pitcairn's death and the identity of the soldier responsible have been debated by historians.

The Battle of Bunker Hill became an important early engagement of the Revolution, demonstrating the determination of American colonial forces despite their eventual withdrawal from the position.

Peter Salem's participation also provides an important reminder of the contributions made by African American soldiers during the struggle for American independence.

ABHL-03 is a distinctive historical personality figure suitable for display alongside Colonel William Prescott, the American standard bearer and other colonial Minutemen.
