ABHL-06 - Two American Minutemen | John Jenkins Designs
This two-figure set represents American colonial Minutemen engaged in close combat during the Battle of Bunker Hill on 17 June 1775, one of the earliest major engagements of the American War of Independence.
The figures are depicted swinging the butts of their muskets, illustrating the desperate hand-to-hand fighting that could develop when soldiers were unable to reload or had exhausted their ammunition.
During June 1775, American colonial forces constructed defensive earthworks on Breed's Hill, overlooking the approaches to Boston. On 17 June, British regular troops launched repeated assaults against the American positions.
The colonial defenders successfully repulsed the first two major assaults, inflicting substantial casualties on the attacking forces. During the third assault, the defenders eventually withdrew as their ammunition supplies became exhausted.
Unlike regular British soldiers, American militia frequently wore practical civilian clothing rather than standardised military uniforms, reflecting the character of the colonial forces during the opening stages of the Revolution.
The dramatic close-combat poses make this set particularly suitable for recreating the final stages of the fighting around the Breed's Hill Redoubt. The two Minutemen can be displayed alongside other American defenders and advancing British infantry to create an engaging battlefield scene.
