ACE-32P – Major Lanoe G. Hawker, VC, DSO
Major Lanoe George Hawker was one of Britain’s earliest fighter aces and a pioneering figure in the development of aerial combat. His courage and innovation helped establish many of the tactics that would become increasingly important as fighter warfare developed.
Hawker was awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions on 25 July 1915, when he attacked several German aircraft during a single patrol. He later commanded No. 24 Squadron RFC, one of Britain’s first dedicated fighter squadrons.
His life ended in November 1916 following a famous aerial engagement with Manfred von Richthofen.
