AG-17 – Germanic Standard Bearer | John Jenkins Designs

The Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in AD 9 marked a decisive turning point in the relationship between Rome and the Germanic tribes. Under the leadership of Arminius, an alliance of tribal warriors defeated three Roman legions commanded by Publius Quinctilius Varus.

Germanic forces were particularly effective in the forests, marshes and uneven ground of their homeland. Armed with spears and shields, they could launch sudden attacks before withdrawing into terrain that hindered Roman formations.

Standards and tribal symbols played an important part in ancient warfare, providing a visible point of identification and helping unite warriors under a common cause.

AG-17 – Germanic Standard Bearer by John Jenkins Designs represents this important battlefield role. Within a Germanic fighting force, a standard bearer provides a natural focal point for warriors assembled for battle.

Part of the Armies and Enemies of Ancient Rome collection, this figure is especially suited to displays depicting Arminius and the Germanic resistance to Rome.
