AG-18 – German Warrior | John Jenkins Designs
For generations, the Roman legions faced determined resistance from the Germanic tribes inhabiting the lands east of the Rhine. These warriors were skilled in raids, ambushes and fighting across difficult terrain, where the disciplined formations of the Roman army could be placed at a disadvantage.
In AD 9, the Germanic leader Arminius exploited these conditions to devastating effect. His tribal alliance ambushed the Roman commander Varus and destroyed three legions in the Teutoburg Forest, inflicting a defeat that became known to Roman historians as the Varian Disaster.
The Germanic warrior was commonly armed with a spear or framea and carried a shield. Some men wore their hair in the distinctive Suebian knot, a hairstyle associated with several Germanic peoples.
AG-18 – German Warrior by John Jenkins Designs captures a fighter from the Germanic tribes who resisted Roman domination. It complements the Germanic Warriors series and offers collectors another figure for recreating the conflicts of the early Roman Empire.
