AG-20 – German Cavalry | John Jenkins Designs

In AD 9, the Roman Empire suffered one of the greatest military disasters in its history when three Roman legions were destroyed in the forests of Germania. The Battle of the Teutoburg Forest saw an alliance of Germanic tribes, led by the Cherusci chieftain Arminius, launch a devastating ambush against the Roman army commanded by Publius Quinctilius Varus.

Arminius had served as an officer with Rome's auxiliary forces and understood Roman military tactics. Using his knowledge of Roman formations and the difficult forest terrain, he helped bring about a victory that would change Rome's ambitions east of the Rhine.

Germanic mounted warriors added mobility to tribal fighting forces, complementing infantry who were particularly effective in ambushes and irregular warfare.

AG-20 – German Cavalry by John Jenkins Designs depicts a mounted Germanic warrior from this turbulent period. Part of the Armies and Enemies of Ancient Rome collection, this figure is an excellent addition to displays featuring the Germanic tribes and their struggles against Roman expansion.
