Communication was essential on the medieval battlefield, where shouted commands could easily disappear beneath the noise of men, horses and fighting. Drums and other musical instruments could be used to transmit signals while also helping troops maintain cohesion and morale.

ALM-04 – Almoravid Drummer represents one of these important non-combatant figures within the army of the Almoravids.

Rather than simply adding another armed warrior, the drummer introduces a different aspect of medieval military organisation and works particularly well alongside command figures, standards and massed infantry.
