AP-01B – Persian Sparabara Standard Bearer and Officer | John Jenkins Designs

The Achaemenid Persian Empire, founded by Cyrus the Great during the 6th century BC, developed a sophisticated military organisation capable of bringing together soldiers from its extensive territories.

Among the infantry formations serving the Persian kings were the Sparabara, whose name means shield-bearers.

These soldiers were associated with the large wicker shields used to protect the ranks of Persian archers positioned behind them.

According to the historical information provided by John Jenkins Designs, Persian military organisation employed a decimal structure, with soldiers grouped into formations of tens, hundreds and thousands.

The basic Persian infantry unit is believed to have consisted of ten men, with a shield-bearing spearman positioned at the front to protect the archers behind him.

These troops were an important part of the Persian army and were intended to operate alongside cavalry and war chariots.

AP-01B – Persian Sparabara Standard Bearer and Officer by John Jenkins Designs is a two-figure command set.

The set features a Persian standard bearer and an officer, representing the command personnel associated with these infantry formations.

This version includes the distinctive blue and yellow shield decoration.

Part of the Armies and Enemies of Ancient Greece and Macedonia collection, the figures are an excellent addition to a larger Persian Sparabara formation, complementing the spearmen and archers.
