AP-10B – Persian Sparabara Archers | John Jenkins Designs
The Persian Sparabara formed an important part of the military forces of the Achaemenid Persian Empire, combining shield-bearing spearmen with ranks of archers.
These troops were organised to provide both defensive protection and concentrated missile fire against an approaching enemy.
The Sparabara carried large rectangular wicker shields that could be rested upon the ground, creating a protective barrier for the archers positioned behind them.
John Jenkins Designs describes the Persian formation as incorporating one rank of shield-bearing infantrymen protecting nine ranks of archers.
Although effective against many opponents, such formations faced challenges when confronting heavily armoured Greek hoplites, whose equipment and close-combat tactics differed considerably from those of the Persian infantry.
AP-10B – Persian Sparabara Archers by John Jenkins Designs is a two-figure set depicting Persian archers wearing yellow caps.
The archers are shown in kneeling positions as part of the firing sequence.
Designed to complement the other Persian archers and shield-bearing Sparabara infantry, these figures allow collectors to recreate the distinctive formations employed by the armies of Ancient Persia.
Part of the Armies and Enemies of Ancient Greece and Macedonia collection.
