AP-22A – Kardake Light Infantry | John Jenkins Designs

The Persian armies of the 4th century BC included several different types of infantry, reflecting the military traditions of the empire's many peoples.

Among these soldiers were the Kardakes, whose equipment and battlefield roles remain the subject of historical debate.

Some ancient accounts describe them as heavily armed infantry resembling Greek hoplites, while others identify them with more lightly equipped troops similar to peltasts.

The Kardake light infantry are associated with weapons including javelins, swords and battle axes, together with wicker shields.

Their crescent-shaped shields resembled the peltai carried by Greek light infantry.

AP-22A – Kardake Light Infantry by John Jenkins Designs depicts a Persian warrior wearing an orange and blue tunic and carrying a distinctive green crescent-shaped shield.

The soldier is captured in a running pose, armed with a javelin and carrying an additional throwing weapon.

The figure represents the mobile light infantry associated with the later Achaemenid Persian army.

Part of the John Jenkins Designs Armies and Enemies of Ancient Greece and Macedonia collection, this miniature complements the three-figure AP-22AN set and the other Kardake infantry releases.
