AP-22BN – Kardake Light Infantry | John Jenkins Designs

The Achaemenid Persian Empire maintained one of the most diverse military organisations of the ancient world, combining troops from the many territories under Persian rule.

During the later period of the empire, the Kardakes became associated with infantry formations whose precise military roles remain uncertain.

Some historians have interpreted the Kardakes as foreign mercenaries, while others believe they represented an attempt to develop Persian infantry influenced by the fighting methods of Greek hoplites.

Kardake light infantry are associated with weapons including javelins, swords and battle axes, together with wicker shields.

John Jenkins Designs notes that some Persian soldiers carried distinctive crescent-shaped shields similar to those used by Greek peltasts.

AP-22BN – Kardake Light Infantry by John Jenkins Designs is a three-figure set depicting Persian warriors wearing yellow and blue tunics and carrying purple crescent-shaped shields.

The figures are captured in running positions, armed with javelins and additional throwing weapons.

The dynamic poses are particularly suitable for assembling a formation of advancing Persian light infantry.

Part of the Armies and Enemies of Ancient Greece and Macedonia collection, this set complements the other Kardake figures representing the Achaemenid Persian army.
