AP-26A – Kardake Light Infantry | John Jenkins Designs
The Persian armies of the 4th century BC included a variety of infantry formations equipped for both missile combat and close-quarter fighting.
Among these soldiers were the Kardakes, whose precise origins and battlefield duties have been interpreted differently by ancient and modern historians.
Some accounts associate the Kardakes with Greek-style heavy infantry, while others describe soldiers equipped in the lighter manner of peltasts.
John Jenkins Designs explains that these warriors could carry two javelins, a wicker shield and weapons such as the kopis sword or the sagaris battle axe.
The sagaris, originally associated with the Saka peoples, was a distinctive bronze weapon designed for close combat.
AP-26A – Kardake Light Infantry by John Jenkins Designs portrays a Persian infantryman advancing with his sagaris battle axe lowered.
The figure wears an orange tunic with green sleeves and carries a distinctive red crescent-shaped shield.
Part of the Armies and Enemies of Ancient Greece and Macedonia collection, this miniature complements the other Kardake warriors and allows collectors to assemble varied Persian infantry formations.
