AP-26AN – Kardake Light Infantry | John Jenkins Designs
The armies of the Achaemenid Persian Empire included a wide range of troops equipped for different types of warfare.
Among these were the Kardakes, whose precise origins and military functions remain uncertain.
John Jenkins Designs describes how ancient sources referred to Kardake soldiers as hoplites, peltasts and slingers, suggesting that the term may have applied to several different types of Persian infantry.
The lighter-armed Kardakes are associated with weapons including javelins, swords and the distinctive sagaris battle axe.
The sagaris was a bronze, pick-like weapon associated with the Saka peoples and adopted by Persian soldiers for close-quarter combat.
AP-26AN – Kardake Light Infantry by John Jenkins Designs is a three-figure set portraying Persian warriors advancing with their battle axes held in a lowered position.
The soldiers wear orange tunics with green sleeves and carry distinctive red crescent-shaped shields.
The dynamic advancing poses make this set particularly effective when combined with other Kardake infantrymen carrying javelins, swords and battle axes.
Part of the Armies and Enemies of Ancient Greece and Macedonia collection, these figures are an excellent addition to a Persian infantry formation.
