AP-26BN – Kardake Light Infantry | John Jenkins Designs
During the 4th century BC, the Persian Empire faced increasingly formidable opposition from the Greek city-states and, eventually, the Macedonian army of Alexander the Great.
The Persian army incorporated several types of infantry, including the Kardakes, whose equipment and battlefield responsibilities varied according to their military role.
Some ancient historians described the Kardakes as heavier infantry resembling Greek hoplites, while others identified them with the lighter peltast-style soldiers who relied upon mobility and throwing weapons.
Among the distinctive weapons associated with these troops was the sagaris, a bronze, pick-like battle axe originally associated with the Saka peoples and subsequently adopted by Persian warriors.
Kardake infantry also used wicker shields, including crescent-shaped examples similar to those carried by Greek peltasts.
AP-26BN – Kardake Light Infantry by John Jenkins Designs features three advancing Persian warriors.
The figures wear green tunics with blue sleeves and carry distinctive blue crescent-shaped shields.
Each warrior is armed with a sagaris battle axe, held in a lowered fighting position as the soldiers advance.
Part of the John Jenkins Designs Achaemenid Persian Army collection, this three-figure set is particularly suitable for creating a coordinated formation of advancing light infantry.
