AWIGUN-02 - American Artillery 6-Pounder Field Gun | John Jenkins Designs
This model represents a grey-painted American 6-pounder field gun of the type used during the American War of Independence from 1775 to 1783.
The 6-pounder was one of the principal field artillery weapons of the period, alongside the smaller 3-pounder gun.
Artillery pieces of the eighteenth century were typically smooth-bore, muzzle-loading weapons manufactured from iron or bronze. A prepared powder charge and projectile were loaded through the muzzle, with the gun fired by igniting the charge through a vent in the barrel.
The designation 6-pounder referred to the approximate weight of the solid round shot fired by the cannon.
Field guns provided infantry forces with valuable fire support, although they required trained artillery crews to load, aim, fire and reposition the weapon after recoil.
Iron and bronze guns offered different advantages, with bronze pieces generally being lighter and easier to move during campaigns.
This grey American artillery model is suitable for Revolutionary War battlefield displays and can be combined with compatible American artillery crew figures.
Please note: Artillery crew figures are not included.
