BBG139 – ‘Ostfront Skywatcher’

On the later-war Eastern Front, the sky could be every bit as important as the ground ahead.

BBG139 – ‘Ostfront Skywatcher’ portrays a German soldier looking upwards, an understated pose that becomes particularly effective when displayed with anti-aircraft weapons such as the Sd.Kfz. 7/1 Flakvierling.

By the latter stages of the war, the Soviet Air Force had grown enormously in strength and increasingly supported Red Army operations with fighters and ground-attack aircraft. German troops could no longer assume that enemy aircraft would be a rare interruption.

The figure can represent a sentry who has spotted an approaching aircraft, a member of an anti-aircraft crew watching the sky or simply a soldier reacting to the sound of engines overhead.

Place BBG139 a short distance from BBG132 with his attention directed upwards and the two releases immediately interact: the figure appears to be providing the warning that brings the Flakvierling crew into action.

Available through The Military Workshop, this King & Country Skywatcher is a simple but very effective storytelling figure for an Ostfront or late-war German diorama.
