BEECH-02 – Forsyth Scouts | John Jenkins Designs

In September 1868, a small force of experienced frontier scouts under Major George Forsyth became involved in one of the most famous defensive actions of the Plains conflicts.

At the Battle of Beecher’s Island, Forsyth’s scouts withdrew onto a sandbar in the Arikaree River after encountering a much larger force of Plains warriors. They dug defensive positions and endured repeated attacks while waiting for relief.

Many of the scouts were Civil War veterans, and most wore civilian frontier clothing rather than conventional U.S. Army uniform. Spencer repeating carbines and revolvers gave the small force considerable firepower despite its precarious position.

BEECH-02 – Forsyth Scouts is ideal for placement among rifle pits, fallen horses and rough riverbank terrain, creating the irregular appearance of the desperate defensive position.
