BEECH-06 – Forsyth Scouts | John Jenkins Designs
BEECH-06 depicts members of Forsyth’s Scouts during their desperate stand at the Battle of Beecher’s Island in September 1868.
Major George Forsyth had been ordered to recruit 50 experienced frontiersmen who could operate more effectively against Plains warriors than conventional troops. Many of the men selected were veterans of the American Civil War.
Armed primarily with seven-shot Spencer repeating carbines and Colt revolvers, the scouts were ambushed while on patrol and forced to retreat to a sandbar in the Arikaree River.
There they dug rifle pits and held their ground for days despite being heavily outnumbered, suffering killed and wounded before relief finally reached them.
BEECH-06 brings another important pair of figures to this dramatic frontier battle.
